CHALLENGE REVIEW TIME! October arrived and that means we need to allocate those Pins (if you’re lost, check this page here) and announce the next month’s challenge!

The September challenge was Water. I asked you to shoot and submit an image that included water in some way, shape or form. It could be ice, snow, steam, dew or a body of water – anything that had water involved was applicable for this challenge. With over 100 entries submitted, it was always going to be a difficult month for me and as the entire recording was well over an hour and half long, we’ve had to condense it right down for YouTube.

The madness is all in here:

As usual, there is no way we can include everyone’s critiques in the video (individual monthly in-depth critiques are included in this though). It was, as usual, incredibly hard to whittle the entries down, especially at the final shortlist stage. Anyone with an image in either the longlist or the shortlist did damn amazing and should be very, very proud! That being said, there can only be one winner. Therefore, the winners of the pins this month are:

(If you don’t know what Pins are, please check out the section on pins here.)

I love all of these and I think that Gold Pin just struck me with the dark beauty, insane vibe and lush colours. The silver pin for me was perfection (theoretically) of that specific style of work and the bronze pin has such gorgeous tones I couldn’t leave it out.

But what is October’s challenge? This months challenge is:

The “Connection” Challenge.

The aim of this month’s challenge is to submit an image that includes or portrays “connection” . It could be literal – items/subjects physically connected – or it could be more nuanced – the emotional or philosophical connection between two things, subjects or objects. Entries can be of any subject. The subject does not have to be a dog – I repeat, the subject can be anything.

How to enter:

  • Stricly ONE entry per person.
  • Shoot or select an image shot within the last 12 months.
  • Post your piece to Instagram and tag @thattogspot in the image.
  • In the description/caption, use the hashtag #ThatTogSpotChallenge
  • (optional) Share the post to your story (bonus points for adding a before and after) and tag @thattogspot and #ThatTogSpotChallenge in the story
  • Entries close at midnight (UK time) on the last day of October

Judging:

The image will be judged on all the normal things (focus, composition, clipped highlights or shadows, focus, exposure, editing quality (not quantity!), and white balance) in line with Print comps

As always, no purchased/downloaded assets are allowed – these include overlays, composite elements and brushes. Entries should not be submitted of images taken on trainings and workshops.

The judging will take place at the start of November and the judge’s decision is final.

Good luck!
