What happens in a one-to-one?

A one-to-one with Jess takes place at the farm in South West Scotland. Thankfully, it has close transport links to the rest of the UK by both rail and road. The A75 is just at the end of the driveway, and the border to England is about 45 minutes away by car.

Taxis from a Dumfries train station connect with the wider UK rail network, offering Carlisle as major change hub bringing students from London, Leeds, Edinburgh and further afield too.

Glasgow Prestwick airport is the closest by a hair, but international students will have more options when flying into Glasgow or Edinburgh airports.

Jess takes in-person sessions very seriously but they are pretty much what you would expect from watching the any of our resources – filled with humour, energy and a huge dose of authenticity. You’ll work together to focus on core and supplementary techniques to ensure you leave thoroughly shattered and majorly up-skilled.

Jess has been offering in-person one-to-ones for over 8 years and has a tried and tested process to deliver solid results. In-person one-to-one photography training can cover:

  • Photography basics for beginners to end with shooting on full manual mode with confidence
  • Off-camera flash crash course to end with shooting outdoors with flash with confidence
  • Advanced portrait techniques and skills to end with a full client gallery, shooting with confidence
  • Action photography techniques to end with in-motion sharp and saleable images, shooting with confidence
  • Photoshop masterclass to end with a full edit with confidence
  • Specific subject sessions to cover theory, shoot and basic workflows with either horses or dogs, with confidence
  • Studio photography masterclass to end with using multiple backgrounds and a 3 light set-up with confidence
  • Business and/or marketing masterclass to end with a solid plan for sustainable growth

If one of those sounds like it’ll suit you down to the ground, continue onwards to select a duration…

What others say about in-person one-to-ones:

My daughter Paige has be receiving tuition from Jess during lockdown with great success and we decided to make the journey from Devon to Yorkshire to benefit from face to face tuition now that the restrictions have been lifted. We had a really lovely day meeting Jess and the fuzzy tribe, shooting in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Lots of great advice and tips for both getting the most out of the camera, non destructive photo editing, photography theory, equipment and printing. The results really speak for themselves with Paige (age 11) producing a beautiful shot of Alfie on ‘THE’ log. Jess was so patient guiding her through Photoshop and so encouraging. We got back to Devon this afternoon and she’s got her laptop out editing immediately. For anyone wanting to learn the art of pet photography we can honestly say Jess is the full package, knowledgable, engaging, fun and to top it off lovely too.

Jess is extremely knowledgeable, and super helpful. She is an inspiration to many aspiring photographers, and I feel privileged to have the benefit of her experience. Would highly recommend!

I can not fault this young lady! From the very start she spoke in a language Rachel understood, she enjoyed her lesson and has been beaming since! Thanks Jess x

Love learning from Jess her work is amazing and she has a talent for teaching! Definately recommend x

Had such fun and I learned so much! I’ve a lot of respect for Jess and all her talents – watching her control the dogs was amazing and her editing of the images was really informative. All round lovely day in excellent company. Has not only a talent for photography, but also for teaching.
