The info:

If you’re brand new to Lightroom Classic, or simply too scared to try it, you are not alone. In fact, Lightroom is the second most frequent thing I get asked for support on, after Photoshop, with people constantly asking: “is there anything for Lightroom beginners?” Often, the student will sign up for an online one-to-one to go through Lightroom basics, but in an hour we can’t get through everything with practice time too.

So, after wondering how I can handhold everyone to confidence in Lightroom Classic, I ended up creating this Lightroom for beginners course which contains 31 lessons and a few extra notes and signposts along the way! We’re going to cover:

  • An introduction to Lightroom Classic
  • How to handle your files
  • Organisation, filters and sorting
  • Editing in Lightroom from end to end
  • Efficiency & productivity with Lightroom
  • Exporting in various formats

And it’s all online so you can join from anywhere in the world!

Please note, this course is delivered in English.

Section 1: Introduction

In the first section of the course, Jess runs through the basics of Lightroom Classic from right at the very start.

Section 2: Fundamentals

In this section, Jess moves through the core modules available and covers practical methods of file handling.

Section 3: Application

No stone is left unturned in the walkthrough of the develop module to leave you able to follow any workflow + efficiency tips!

Section 4: Exporting

After editing or organising images, you’ll want to export them for use elsewhere. This section covers exporting in depth.

All I can say if you do not attend this you are missing out!

The IPS workshop was extremely helpful, explaining everything I needed to know. The additional information I received afterwards was extremely help too. Thank you!

This workshop was one of the best things I have invested in for my business. What I learnt in a day was just invaluable and Jess has given me the knowledge to be able to implement it myself. I now feel confident that I would be able to complete an IPS session and I am looking forwards to putting it into practice. I cannot wait to attend more workshops and learn more from Jess in the future.

I highly recommend a “one on one” with Jess, although she is more than generous with all the exceptional content she produces and posts, there is something to be said about working “one on one“ together.  Jess was so gracious as I was feeling a bit intimidated sharing my images, she put me at ease quite quickly and shared her awesome Lightroom and Photoshop workflow that was relevant to my images.  Jess offers a summary sheet as well, make sure you opt-in for that.   I was able to follow along and pay attention to our session knowing I didn’t have to take notes. They are well detailed and captured everything we reviewed-  Jess it was a real honour to work with you, I know I will book another session soon.

This course is absolutely perfect for beginners. Extremely clear and easy to understand, taking you through all of the tools you need in an easy to navigate step by step format. For anyone struggling with Photoshop this is an essential purchase!!! You can learn at your own pace, in your own time and you will be confident in the foundations of Photoshop by the end. Cannot recommend enough.

Jess’ advice was honest, practical and to the point.  An hours session has kicked me into gear and given me a whole bunch to work on.  Would I recommend?  Wholeheartedly.  Will I be booking another session?  Definitely.

I would highly recommend the Advanced Portrait Workshop. Jess is not only highly knowledgeable and experienced in dog photography, but is also a great teacher who explains content clearly. The workshop book that was provided is a really valuable resource to refer back to, covering shoot theory and a step-by-step editing flowchart. My dog photography shooting and editing skills improved significantly over the weekend. Thanks Jess!

Anyone considering taking a step into dog photography should absolutely consider this course. I have been on many courses but this is by far and away been the best. Jess is very passionate and knowledgeable about her subject and keen to ensure you come away with the techniques to take you up a level.

I joined this workshop to learn more about photo’ editing, but I learned so much more than this. I learned that the editing is like the candle on your birthday cake. It finishes it off well, but it’s really not that important. Jess is a very talented teacher with so much knowledge & a great way of delivering that knowledge. If anyone is in two minds about whether this workshop is worth the money, then my answer would be yes. Every single penny & then some.

What a wonderful weekend! Jess covered everything from the very beginning making us think about things differently. The shoot afternoon was a big learning curve, as was the editing day. Be prepared to learn lots, and be absolutely shattered but raring to go after the 2 days.

Are you a Trainer?

This section is new, and strictly enforced:

1
Trainers, Influencers & Coaches

Unfortunately, due to repetitive, frustrating and demoralising situations occurring regularly over the past two years, we’ve had to make the decision to refuse access to any individual who offers, or plans to offer, photography, editing or business training to other photographers.

There are exceptions to our new no-trainer rule that we’re happy to make, but only if we’re contacted before membership registration to approve the sign-up.

“This has been one of the single hardest decisions I personally (Jess) have ever had to make. Over 50 different people have blatantly, unapologetically and aggressively stolen or skimmed content, workflows or resources in the past 18 months alone. We have a full list and share it with other trainers in our genre because those who cannot think for themselves will unfortunately always operate with these tactics.

  • In one case, an individual skimmed all of our online course videos and re-recorded the content almost word for word before selling it as their own content
  • In another case, an individual purchased our entire book library and announced a brand new course on the exact same content broken into the same sections as our books the same day
  • A simple and probably most innocent example would be the individual who took an MTog full edit, used their own similar image and then released a paid-for tutorial with the exact same workflow, which is protected under IP law
  • And as a final example, an individual used our MTog member list to direct message hundreds of them offering training for free if they leave our programme for theirs

Never again.”

We will always protect ourselves and others in our position, just as we would expect others to do, and we check for misuse and fraud regularly.

All our content, techniques, resources, plan structures, included elements and pricing are protected. As a hard line, any plagiarism, content skimming or intellectual property theft will be pursued legally and details of the breach will be shared with the industry.

It’s a shame it’s come to this, but we know we’re not the only educators to have had to implement this protocol. Please be a good human!

Access Duration

The access duration for this course is set at 3 months.
Why? Read on…

Access to the lessons is set by default and by design – there is current scientific research displaying a strong correlation between learning deadlines and completion, retention and mastery. Self-management is crucial and even with a busy life or a time-pressured day job, if you prepare for our online courses, you’ll have enough time to complete the sessions plus practical assignments too.

We would recommend taking your time to work through the lessons and practise each topic before moving on but also to schedule learning time in your diary to ensure you remain committed to working through your enrolled content.

We know this is a hotly debated topic in the online learning world, but for Jess as a science nerd, following the data is vital. So far a grand total of 0.3% of our total student enrolments have got stuck on the access length. We’re here to help though, so read on…

If at the end of the default access length, you feel that you need more time, just send us an email and we’ll sort that out as soon as possible – there is no charge for extending however extensions are for 3 months only and can only be applied once.

That being said, you can get lifetime access connected to an MTog membership if you need additional time. If you are an MTog already, you can request to have course access extended at any time, for any reason (you don’t need to tell us). Simply send an email to [email protected] to get the process moving. We’ll action it as fast as possible!

Maybe some of you are like me.. totally carried away with pet photography… and then you realise what a mess it creates on your time budget, because you just run out of time to do all the edits!!
That is where this class comes in, it teaches you how to batch edit and how to use your time efficiently. And many more useful little tricks..
What can I say.. another great Jess Workshop. Highly recommended.

  2. Lynn Busse (verified owner)

I can say I’m really glad I took it. I could make my way around Lightroom before but now I have a much better understanding of how I can make my workflow more efficient which is huge! (especially for my dog sport events which have hundreds of photos!) Also got some good tips on what tools lightroom has for editing that I wasn’t familiar with…the new masking tools in particular. Definitely recommend for beginners and even more experienced users who want to maximize their skills and time management. Another great ThatTogSpot offering!
